Busturialdea-Urdaibai

The Region of Gernika-Bermeo or Busturialdea is located at the Northwest of Biscay. It is compose by 20 municipalities: Ajangiz, Arratzu, Bermeo, Forua, Gautegiz-Arteaga, Ibarrangelu, Kortezubi, Ereño, Elantxobe, Ea, Morga, Mendata, Nabarniz, Muxika, Mundaka, Sukarrieta, Gernika-Lumo, Busturia, Murueta and Errigoiti.

It has a total area of 282 square kilometers. Its population is close to 45.000. Almost 70% of it lives in the urban areas of Bermeo, and Gernika-Lumo. The rest is disseminated in the rural towns and country side. For more information you may visit the web site: www.busturialdeaurdaibai.com.

In this region we have the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve declare so by the UNESCO in 1984 because of its varied landscapes, ecological diversity, cultural values, and it's conservation degree. The Reserve constitutes an important natural area of 220 square kilometers. It is formed by 19 municipalities from the region (with the exception of EA), and 3 other municipalities from bordering regions: Arrieta, Amorebieta-Etxano y Munitibar Arbatzegi-Gerrikaitz.

The Reserve limits are established by the basin of the Oka river.
